Skhidnytsia health resort is located in the valley along the mountain river and is surrounded by forested mountains filled with fresh mountain air. The resort is adjacent to the Skolivski Beskydy National Nature Park. Skhidnytsia is popular due to its beautiful Carpathian landscapes, fresh mountain air and mineral springs. On the territory of the spa town there are 38 springs and 17 wells of mineral waters of different chemical composition. However visitors have access to 10 mineral springs and three wells. Those waters are recommended by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health. The study of the properties of other waters is carried out.
There are three types of “Naftusia” mineral water in Skhidnytsia:
• with a high content of organic substances having diuretic action (Springs No.1, 3 and 26) and strong choleretic action (Springs No.5, 8, 9, 10, 25, 1C and 18C);
• with a high iron content (Springs No.13 and 15);
• and with a high amount of chlorides and sodium.
There is also a deposit of “Borjomi” type mineral water in the spa town (Spring No.2C).
Spring No.1 is hydrocarbonate-sodium-calcium water that contains organic substances as well as specific groups of microorganisms that enhance therapeutic effect. Low mineralization water of Spring No.1 has a diuretic effect. It fosters a mechanical excretion and removal of small calculi (stones), kidney sand, and products of inflammation (leukocytes, mucus and pus). Physicians advise to drink this water for the treatment of the following diseases: urolithiasis, chronic pyelonephritis, chronic pyelocystitis of non-tuberculosis origin, lithogenic diathesis (uric acid, hyperoxaluria, phosphaturia and xanthinuria) and the diseases of bile-excretory system.
A lot of walking enhances water treatment efficiency as a result of the contraction of gastrocnamius muscles, operating like secondary pumps, that improves blood circulation. Thus, the load on the heart is reduced and oxygen and nutrients get delivered to body cells.
Spring No.3 is low-mineralized, low-acid hydrocarbonate-calcium water with a hydrogen sulfide odor and high content of valuable minerals such as copper, zinc, iodine, bromine, fluorine, cobalt, traces of silver and manganese. This mineral water as well Spring No.1 water contains organic matter that is the main therapeutic factor. It has a diuretic and anti-inflammatory effect, improves blood circulation in body, helps to restore normal kidney function, improves mood and appetite, helps cleanse the body of radionuclides, and its content of zinc helps in the treatment of diabetes.
Spring No.26 is low-mineralized hydro-carbonate-sulfate-magnesium water. Low mineralization water of Spring No.26 is recommended for the treatment of urolithiasis, lithogenic diathesis, chronic kidney and urinary tract diseases, chronic cholangitis, cholecystitis, non-specific hepatitis and after viral hepatitis (Botkin's disease).
Spring No.5 is hydrocarbonate-sodium-calcium water containing organic substances. This water is used in the treatment of chronic urinary and biliary tract diseases.
Springs No.8, 9, 10 (Pump Room/Buvette) are low-mineralized weak alkaline hydrocarbonate-calcium waters with a high content of silicic acid, iron, manganese and silver. Water in the Pump Room is rich in valuable therapeutic organic substances and characteristic specific groups of microorganisms. The waters of these springs help increase bile formation and bile acid excretion, and, as a result, reduce cholesterol levels. Therefore the mineral waters are recommended for the treatment of liver and biliary tract diseases (chronic cholecystitis, cholelithiasis and chronic hepatitis), and urinary tract and kidney pathology (urolithiasis and chronic pyelonephritis). These waters increase excretory function of the kidney, diuresis (urine production) and kidney filtration function.
Spring No.25 is low-mineralized hydrocarbonate sulfate-calcium-magnesium water with a strong choleretic action. The water is recommended for the treatment of chronic pyelonephritis, chronic cystitis, chronic hepatitis, cholangitis, cholecystitis, after Botkin's disease and after kidney surgery.
Well No.1C is low-mineralized water with a high content of organic substances similar in its composition to “Naftusya” No.1 water in Truskavets. Scholars and doctors recommend drinking this water for the treatment of liver and urinary tract diseases, pancreatitis and diabetes.
Well No.18C is low-mineralized weak alkaline hydrocarbonate-sulphate-sodium water with a faint hydrogen sulfide odor, flowing up from the depth of 100 meters. The water has a high content of mineral nutrients, biologically active organic substances and microorganisms. It is recommended for the stimulation of the bile-forming function of the liver. Systematic water consumption increases bile production, lowers biliary cholesterol concentration, stimulates liver tissue regeneration and increases excretory function of the kidney.
Well No.2C (“Borjomi” type) is soda water of moderate mineralization, alkaline hydrocarbonate-sodium with a high microelement content. It flows from the depth of 100 meters. Well No.2C water affects the pH balance and lowers the acid-forming function of the stomach. This water effectively treats diseases of stomach, intestine and duodenum (ulcers, chronic gastritis of high and normal acidity and acute duodenitis).
Springs No.15 and No.13 have no analogues in Ukraine.
Spring No. 13 is hydrocarbonate-calcium water high in iron content. This low-mineralized water changes the secretory function of the gastric glands and bivalent iron ions increase red blood cells and low hemoglobin level.
Spring No.15 is high in iron, carbon dioxide and manganese. This unique spring water is recommended for the treatment of chronic low stomach acid, iron-deficiency anemia and posthemorrhagic anemia. This water is especially useful in removing radionuclides from the body.
