Village Huta - starting point for hikes in the Ukrainian Carpathians

05.11.2019

If you are thinking of hiking in the Ukrainian Carpathians, and looking for a starting point for one-day or multi-day mountain hikes, we would like to present a place in the Carpathian Mountains, which would fit well as such a starting point.
It is the village Huta, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. About 200 kilometers from Lviv, and only 60 kilometers from Ivano-Frankivsk away.

At the end of the road, on the riverbank and surrounded by mountains on three sides, is located this village. The name Huta, most likely is from the German word “Hütte”, because here was a plant, an ironworks, where there have been made metal, glass or ceramic products.
The forest-covered mountains, the fresh air, the river and the peaceful atmosphere are very good frame conditions, not otherwise the choice of the place for the construction of the winter residence of the former Ukrainian President Kuchma felt on this point.
This is how the residence "Синьогора" (Syniohora, which means as much as “the blue mountain”) was built in the neighborhood of Yukos (former owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky), which is no longer well-kept after the destruction of Yukos.

The residence "Синьогора" has been open to visitors for several years and can be visited. But since it is an object where you receive high-ranking civil servants and delegations you have to register in advance, we can help you out with the registration.

But now back to the village as a starting point for hiking tours to the Ukrainian Carpathians, more specifically to the Gorgany. The trails are well marked and clearly visible.
Here is a section from a hiking map of this mountain region; you can also see the highest mountain of the Gorgany, the mountain Sywulja Welyka with 1836 meters.

A one-day hike to this top of the village of Huta is also feasible, bearing in mind that the elevation difference is about 1100 meters, and the distance is about 33 kilometers.

A possible hiking trail leads to the Manjawa waterfall, which is located nearby. The local forests are rich on berries and mushrooms. So if you do not want to go hiking, you can take a walk through the forest and enjoy nature.

Attractions in Huta and surroundings
1) As mentioned above, it is possible to book a guided tour of the Presidential Residence Synjohora
2) Manjawa Monastery and Manjawa Waterfall. The village of Manjawa houses a culture and a natural monument, an Orthodox monastery of the 17th century Ukrainian church and the Manjawa waterfall.

Apart from the Hotel Syniohora, there are some private inns that can offer food and lodging. Many also have a guest kitchen, where you can prepare the food yourself.
